Did you know??

+ Seahorses are not horses. They are actually fish.
They are like most other fish except for a few very interesting things.

+ Baby seahorses are called fry.

+ Seahorses have armored plates all over their body instead of scales

and are very slow swimmers.

 

+ Seahorses can change their color to camouflage themselves to hide from enemies.

What makes it a seahorse?

 

dorsal fin: moves fish forward

pectoral fins: control turning and steering

eyes: each eye moves independently

reproduction: The female seahorse produces eggs, but they are held
inside the male's body until they hatch; he is pregnant for up to 40 days.
The sea horse is the only animal in which the father is pregnant

 

species: about 35 known species exist

size: depending on the species, from 1/4 inch to a foot or more
