FAQ:I see an item listed in the catalog as being “checked in” for the Techmobile. Is it definitely on the bus? Unfortunately due to spatial constraints, not all items in the catalog listed as being checked in on the Techmobile are actually on the vehicle. Many items are in storage at the bus’s home facility, which is the Sugar Creek Branch. The best way to find out whether an item is onboard is to call the bus’s cell phone during regular business hours at (317) 498-7713. After 4:30 p.m., please refer questions to Sugar Creek’s circulation staff. Requested items can be picked up from the Techmobile. I am interested in scheduling the Techmobile to visit my organization/business/group. How can I do this? If you are interested in scheduling a regular stop, please contact Techmobile Manager Michael Schull. The route is planned well in advance, but stops do change in accordance to demand, and new stops are welcomed. We try to accommodate reasonable requests, and certainly enjoy seeing new faces in new places! What makes the Techmobile “tech?” The Techmobile features Internet-accessible computers available for public use. Thanks to use of wireless “air card” technology, even in remote parts of Hancock County, the bus still maintains a high speed connection. The computers also feature learning games for our younger computer crowd. Individual computer tutoring is available; please contact us if you’d like to schedule an appointment at one of our stops. How is the Techmobile route determined? Why do stops occasionally change? The routing of Techmobile stops is laid out to be as logical and fuel-efficient as possible. We strive to be as inclusive as possible in reaching out to all of the regions of Hancock County that our library system services. Sometimes stops on the route become less productive in time, or don’t generate as much interest due to another, more popular stop in close proximity. As we analyze statistics, we do make changes and the schedule reflects those decisions. New stops are rotated in when possible and an available time slot exists. What kind of materials does the Techmobile have? The Techmobile has everything you’ve come to expect from Hancock County Public Library: great books, DVDs, music CDs, and even computers with Internet access. We have a broad range of materials to check for children, teens and adults. We stock fiction, non-fiction, books on CD, large print, magazines; we receive new material all the time! Stop by to check it out for yourself. Does the Techmobile have access for disabled or wheelchair-bound patrons? The Techmobile has a powered lift that can be used for those needing help getting onto the bus. If you need assistance boarding the bus, we are happy to help at any of our stops. Can I pick up holds at the Techmobile? You certainly may pick up your holds at your most convenient Techmobile stop location. Just choose “Techmobile” in our online catalog when picking your location to receive materials, or if you need help placing a hold, call the Reference Desk or the Techmobile directly. What are the hours of the Techmobile? The Techmobile’s schedule varies day-to-day. We are “on the road” Monday through Thursday, at the stops listed in our schedule. When the Techmobile is not out in the community, it can be found at the Sugar Creek Branch in New Palestine. Techmobile materials can be picked up and checked out from the branch when it is not out attending stops. Normal hours of operation for the bus are 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., but the bus does extend its hours on Wednesdays during the summer, when it is out until 7:00 p.m.
