About The Techmobile

The Techmobile is Hancock County Public Library’s bookmobile – the library’s “World on Wheels.”  The Techmobile contains 3 Internet-equipped laptop computers along with a generous selection of library materials ranging from adult and children’s books to DVDs to CDs, magazines, and more.  The bus, purchased by the library as part of a $313,644 Community Alliances to Promote Education (CAPE) grant awarded by the Lilly Endowment, was put into usage in January of 2003.  It visits nearly all the reaches of Hancock County Public Library’s served areas.  The purpose of the Techmobile is to provide library service to those who may not have easy access to the library, including the homebound, disabled, early learning and child care facilities, and those in outlying areas of the county who have trouble driving to one of the library’s branches.

HCPL TechmobileThe 33,000 pound, 35 foot long bus operates on a rotating schedule, visiting stops on a three-week basis.  All materials checked out on the bus circulate for three weeks and do not incur overdue fines (lost or damaged materials still incur fees).  Patrons are free to use the computers for Internet and individual computer tutorials can be arranged.

Check out the schedule and next time the Techmobile is close, be sure to pay it a visit.  You never know what you’ll find, from a great selection of DVDs and new books to classics and old favorites, come find your next favorite at the Techmobile today!
