About The Techmobile

The Hancock County Public Library christened its new techmobile in January 2003. The satellite-equipped vehicle was funded as part of a $313,644 Community Alliances to Promote Education (CAPE) grant, awarded to the library by Lilly Endowment.

The purpose of the grant is to give all residents easy access to technology information in an effort to prepare the county for changes in the economy. Library Director Dianne Osborne believes that the five laptops onboard the techmobile, and classes on how to use them, bring cyberspace to people who might not otherwise approach the Web.

The techmobile delivers library materials and the Internet to the homebound, disabled, and residents in outlying areas of the county who have difficulty driving the distance to HCPL’s three branches.
