Trendy Bracelets

Hey Teens!
You can create your own unique, trendy bracelets using everyday items like pop tabs and buttons. Express yourself and your personal style by using a variety of colors and styles. You could even make a pop tab bracelet like Bella sports in the movie, “New Moon”. The Trendy Bracelets program will be held at both library locations: Thursday, September 9, 4:00-600 p.m., at the Central Library in Greenfield and Tuesday, September 14, 4:00-6:00 p.m., at the Sugar Creek Branch in New Palestine. Click on the location you nearest you and sign up!

Happy new school year!

Hey Teens,
It is official, the new school year has begun! To kick things off, here’s a Top Ten list of Reasons the Library is Cool.
10) It’s a great place to go after school to hang with friends.
9) You can use the computers to check Facebook…I mean, do homework. 8) You can check out video games to play in the Teen Room to unwind after a long day at school (Monday-Thursday, 3-6 p.m.).
7) You could actually do some homework so you don’t have to do it at home.
6) You can download audiobooks onto your MP3 player using the Overdrive station.
5) You can have the computer lab to yourselves every week, Monday-Wednesday, 3-5 p.m.
4) The booths in the Teen Room are perfect for meeting up to work on group projects.
3) You could read a book just for fun!
2) You can attend free programs just for teens like movie nights, games programs, crafts, and more.
1) The librarians! It’s our job to help you find what you’re looking for, after all.

There are a ton of reasons to visit the library and these are just a few. Stop in after school and see what we have for you!

Teen Room Games & Open Computer Lab

Hey Teens!
You still have some summer left, but the first day of school is right around the corner. To help you get excited for the new semester, the library will be offering more for teens after school.
Beginning August 11 teens, ages 13-19, will be able to check out video games and play them in the Teen Room, Monday-Thursday, 3:00-6:00 p.m. Make sure to bring your library card in order to check out games for the Nintendo Wii or Xbox 360. All games are rated T for Teen or below. Only library video games can be played in the Teen Room so you don’t have to bring your own and risk damage or loss.
Also beginning August 11, the computer lab will be open for teens, ages 13-19, each week Monday-Wednesday, 3:00-5:00 p.m. Teens will have exclusive access to the computers in the lab for homework, social networking, and even games.

Teen Reading Club

Hey Teens,
It’s not too late! You can still sign up for the Teen Summer Reading Club. It’s SO easy! Just click on the link and register online. When you read a book all you have to do is sign back in and enter it in your log. That’s it! You’ll earn a free book for reading just 5 books this summer! Each book you log earns you an entry into our prize drawings just for teens. We’ve already given away some really cool weekly prizes, but there are still several prizes to go. We’ll also hold final grand prize drawings for an iPod Touch and $100 Visa gift card!
You can read what you want, earn a free book, and possibly other cool prizes. Why wouldn’t you participate?!

The summer reading club has begun! You can sign up online any time between now and August 1.
If 600 or more teens sign up for the library’s summer reading club this year, I have agreed to do something in return. Oh, and did I mention YOU GET TO CHOOSE what I do? Summer Reading Club 2010

Don’t let your brain go to mush this summer, join the library’s Teen Summer Reading Club! Sign up online beginning June 1 at www.hcplibrary.org. Read the books you want to read and keep a log using our online system. Every book you log will earn you entries into our prize drawings. You could win cool prizes and free stuff from Starbucks, Quizno’s, Pizza Hut, Strike Force Lanes, Mama Nita’s, and more in our weekly drawings! Two lucky teens will go home with an iPod Touch or a $100 Visa gift card at the end of the club! Everyone can earn a free book for reading just 5 books this summer!
That’s not all…we’ve got some fun programs lined up for teens this summer at the library! Take a look at our event calendar and sign up for the programs you’d like to attend. All programs are free and put on for teens entering the 6th grade up to age 19.

Book Trailer Contest

Hey Teens!
HCPL is holding its first Teen Book Trailer Contest this summer! Book trailers are similar to movie trailers, but they promote books instead of films. You can see examples by searching for “book trailers” on YouTube.
To find out more about the contest, take a look at the guidelines on the library’s teen website. You can also watch the Book Trailer Contest Announcement on YouTube for more information. Come to the Book Trailers 101 program on Monday, June 7, 3:00-5:00 p.m., at the library to find out how to go about making your own video. The finalists’ videos will be shown at a special awards night in July and a grand prize winner will be named. The winner and all finalists will receive prizes for their hard work and may even see their videos on TV, thanks to Hancock Telecom! Get creative Hancock County teens!

Monday Mystery Movie Night

Hey Teens!
You’re invited to the Monday Movie & Pizza Night at the library on Monday, May 10, 4:00-6:00 p.m.! We’ll order in some pizzas and watch the new “Sherlock Holmes” movie, rated PG-13, on the big screen.
If you can’t make this movie night at the Main Library, there will be another showing at our Sugar Creek Library Branch on Wednesday, May 19, 4:00-6:00 p.m. Either way, make sure to sign up ahead of time using our Events Calendar. We don’t want to run out of pizza!
