Program Description

Author Russel L. Jarvis shares his path into writing and self-publishing, from early inspiration and the challenges of traditional publishing to releasing multiple books through Amazon. He explores the choice between simply getting published and building a literary life, introduces practical writing tools, and offers an overview of self-publishing, including author control, vanity-press pitfalls, and production realities.

Russel L. Jarvis is an author, presenter, and retired chaplain based in Indiana. He holds graduate degrees in pastoral care and practical ministries and is board certified in professional chaplaincy. Jarvis has published articles since the early 1980s in regional and national publications and is the author of six self-published books spanning fantasy, science fiction, nonfiction, historical fiction, and memoir. He now focuses on writing and speaking about the creative process and self-publishing.
