Every four weeks - Friday - off, Saturday - 8-5 PM, Sunday - 12-4 PM 

SUMMARY

The Youth Services Branch Manager leads youth services at the Sugar Creek Branch, guiding a team of librarians and assistants while maintaining youth spaces, collections, and services. Reporting to the Youth Services Manager, this role coordinates branch-level programs, ensures policies are followed, and fosters strong communication across the library. The Manager creates a welcoming, engaging environment for children, teens, and families, delivering high-quality library services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  •        Supervises Youth Services Librarians and Library Assistants at the branch, including participating in interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, and, when necessary, disciplining staff.
  •       Plans, implements, promotes, and presents programs throughout the year, including community outreach initiatives.
  •       Collaborates with Youth Services staff to provide effective and engaging services to children, teens, and caregivers.
  •       Develops and maintains the Youth Services collection by reviewing, selecting, and weeding materials to ensure a diverse and current selection of print and non-print resources.
  •       Maintains youth spaces by designing and installing engaging displays, keeping materials organized, and ensuring cleanliness to create a welcoming and safe environment.
  •       Assists patrons in locating materials and determining appropriate resources; provides instruction in the use of library technology and general orientation to department resources.
  •       Ensures compliance with library policies to maintain a secure and professional environment for patrons and staff.
  •       Performs administrative duties, including maintaining effective communication with library staff, compiling statistics, and preparing reports.
  •       Stays current with library trends, developments, and technology through workshops, conferences, professional journals, and listservs; attends staff and department meetings and may take minutes.
  •       Performs other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operations and continuity of services in the best interests of the library.

ACCOUNTABILITY

  •        Manages budget responsibilities as assigned by the Youth Services Manager.
  •       Maintains the quality of youth collections, services, and spaces at the branch.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  •        Directly supervises branch youth staff, including participation in hiring, training, evaluating, and, if needed, disciplining employees.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION

  •        Master’s degree (ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent).
  •       Must possess or be able to acquire Indiana State Librarian Certificate 3.
  •       Valid U.S. driver’s license required.

COMPUTER SKILLS

  •        Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (2013 or newer) and Google Workspace.
  •       Comfortable with modern internet browsers and email; basic troubleshooting skills for Mac and PC environments.
  •       Experience with mobile devices, including eReaders.
  •       Experience with Integrated Library System (ILS) software preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  •        Regularly required to talk, listen, and use hands for handling materials.
  •       Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  •       Frequently required to sit and reach; occasionally required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  •       Frequently lifts/moves up to 10 pounds; occasionally lifts/moves up to 100 pounds; occasionally moves book carts up to 300 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  •        General office/library environment.
