If you were asked to leave for more than a day, your parents or guardians would have received a letter in the mail that included the following information:
- Why you were banned
- Length of ban
- Date on which you can schedule a return meeting
- Copy of the Behavior Policy for you both to go over and sign
- Person to contact in case of questions
If you have not received this letter, please reach out to the Tween/Teen Services Librarian.
Once your letter has been received and the date of your ban has come, here are the steps you need to take:
- Contact the Tween/Teen Services Librarian to arrange a date and time for your Return Meeting. Unless specifically requested, your parent or guardian is not required to attend, but is certainly welcome!
- Go over and complete the Behavior Policy with your parent or guardian.
- Come to the library on the date and time agreed upon with the Tween/Teen Services Librarian with the completed Behavior Policy in hand. Let the staff member at the main Information Desk know that you are here for your Return Meeting.
- Have the meeting and then go enjoy the library once again!
The goal of the Return Meeting is to make sure that you understand the behavior we expect of all library patrons and what will happen if you do not meet these expectations in the future.
First, we will check that your Behavior Policy has been completed. If you forget this paper, we will still conduct the meeting but you will not be allowed back to the library and will have to leave the property directly after our talk.
Then, we will discuss why you were banned and why we don’t allow that specific behavior.
Next we will go over all the rules and expectations with you, ending with an explanation of our banning policy.
Lastly, we will answer any questions you have about the behavior that is expected and the consequences for not meeting these expectations.
Once your meeting is done (and we have your completed Behavior Policy), you are allowed back in the library starting immediately.
This is your space to chill, read, play games, and just hang out. To keep it fun, respectful, and safe for everyone, here are just a few things to keep in mind:
- Keep it down—no need to shout.
- No running or rough play.
- Don’t throw or toss stuff.
- No over-the-top PDA.
- Don’t hang out in the shelves—let the people access the books!
- Hands off other people’s stuff.
- No food outside the Lobby - but you can have covered drinks!
- No fighting or hitting.
- No obscene language or gestures—keep it respectful.
- Don’t harass other patrons or staff.
- Cooperate with staff members’ reasonable requests.
Thanks for helping make this a great spot for everyone!
