State Parks Adventure Backpack

State Parks Adventure Backpack
Your adventure awaits, thanks in part to the Adventure Backpack Program from the Friends of the Hancock County Public Library and the Indiana State Parks. The backpack and included letter provide patrons with gate admission to any Indiana state park while you have the backpack checked out. Use the pass to explore miles of trails that range from easy to very rugged. Experience biking, swimming, bird watching, wildlife, camping, fishing, interpretive programs, nature centers, or just relax as you enjoy spending time outdoors with family. With 37 state park locations across Indiana, the possibilities are endless.

There are two Adventure Backpacks to choose from. One kit is for bird watching and includes binoculars and a Birds of Indiana guidebook. The other backpack is for insects and includes a magnifying glass for looking at creepy crawlies and a National Geographic Insects of North America guidebook. Both kits include a community journal to log what you and our other patrons find, along with a set of colored pencils for sketching.

From the Indiana Department of Natural Resources on how the Adventure Backpack works: The included letter must be presented at the entrance gate. The HCPL Adventure Backpack must be in your possession with plans for use when you present the letter at the entrance gate. The letter pass admits all persons accompanying you in a single, private family-type vehicle. Groups arriving in buses or commercial vehicles will be charged per person. The Adventure Backpack and letter pass must be returned to HCPL by the required date. The pass will be accepted at any state park property including holidays and weekends and expires on December 31. This letter provides entrance to the park and does not cover additional fees such as camping, use of swimming pools, fishing license, and does not provide entrance to state museums, the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center, or other state attractions.
