The Hancock County Public Library has all sorts of items, ready for you to borrow. Each type of item has its own set of rules regarding loan period, item limit, holds, fines, and ability to be renewed. Learn more on our Borrowing Information page.
Use the library's desktop or laptop computers for free with a library card or guest pass. Computers use a Windows-based operating system, are loaded with Microsoft Office products, and connect to the internet. See our Computer Use Policy.
A copy machine and printer are available in the public computer area. The cost per side of an 8.5x11 or 8.5x14 page is $0.10 for black and white copies and $0.25 for color copies.
Check the library's collection before purchasing books for your homeschool curriculum. Ask a youth librarian for a list of our current holdings.
Sign up for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library to receive a free book, addressed to your child, every month until their 5th birthday.
The Hancock County Public Library provides free test proctoring (the student is responsible for all other associated expenses, including institutional fees or postage). Exams will be proctored for residents of Hancock County by a professional librarian.
Faxes can be sent and received at the Information Desk. The charge is $1.00 per page sent or received (max of $5.00).

If a condition or situation prevents you from visiting a library location, the Bookmobile will safely deliver your library materials and pick up any materials to be returned.

Interlibrary loan service (ILL) expands access to library materials beyond the holdings of the Hancock County Public Library. Make an ILL request online or call the Information Desk at (317) 462-5141, Ext. 240.
Anyone permanently residing within Hancock County is eligible for a free library card! Bring a proof of address, such as a driver’s license or recent utility bill, to either HCPL location. If you live in Vernon Township, you will need to bring in your Vernon Township Public Library card.
